Before there was "Black" or "Khamoshi", there was Hrisida's Koshish. Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bhaduri , considered two of India's finest actors, play the roles of hearing-and-speech challenged Haricharan and Aarti respectively. They meet serendipitously, fall in love and get married. Their joy is unbounded when they have a child who has normal hearing and sight. But life has more challenges in store for them, set in motion by Aarti's selfish brother ( an uncharacteristic role for funnyman Asrani).
A poignant tale of a deaf-mute couple, their normal son, their blind friend, and their struggle for honorable survival. Gulzarās masterful nuances pepper the movie with funny and painful moments, but never a dull one. Jaya shines but Sanjeev dazzles. Known for his powerful dialogues, Sanjeev plays a silent role with amazing ease - from the cycle accident in the beginning, right up to the climax when his son hesitates to marry a deaf-mute girl.
A story of love. A story about hope. A story that inspires.
An amazing comedy with Amitabh Bachan at his comic best. Full time-pass
